Mountview appoints new Artistic Director and Principal

Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts will see a new Artistic Director and Principal lead the school into a new and “exciting” phase from January 2014.

Stephen Jameson, currently Director of Performance at the north London drama school, said he is “delighted” to be stepping into such an “important role”.

Jameson has worked at a string of actor training institutions, such as the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Guildhall and notably LAMDA, where he was an Associate Director. He trained as an actor and has worked at the Old Vic, Almeida Theatre, Theatre Royal Stratford East and the English Shakespeare Company. As a director, Jameson created work for the Young Vic, Globe International Shakespeare Festival in Neuss, Queille Festival in Toulouse, National Theatre in Seoul and Acteerstudio, Den Haag.

“I am looking forward to continuing the great work that has been achieved in recent years,” says Jameson, who brings 30 years’ experience to the role. “It will be a privilege and a pleasure to be involved in taking Mountview forward to the next exciting phase.”

Mountview is developing plans to move its training to the old Hornsey Town Hall, building a “contemporary European academy in fit for purpose facilities”, he added.

Mountview’s Chairman Vikki Heywood CBE said that Stephen brings a “creative vision, true talent as a teacher and a deep understanding of what students need as they enter an exciting but changing industry.”

Jameson replaces Sue Robertson who steps down after six years. Heywood paid tribute to the outgoing Principal. “I would like to pay a huge debt of thanks to outgoing Principal Sue Robertson who has reshaped Mountview over the past six years, ensuring the highest level of teaching, student satisfaction and launching the ambition for Hornsey Town Hall,” she said.
