Phil has called me “Minty… It rhymes with ‘hinge'.. ever since!”
Famed for her mischievous sense of humour, Fern took pleasure in revealing Schofield's special nickname for her. Recounting the day she was at home making a cup of tea for her husband, she described how she knocked a jar of mint sauce onto the floor which smashed and resulted in mint sauce splashing up her nightie. “Phil has called me “Minty… It rhymes with ‘hinge'.. ever since!” The studio then erupted with laughter.
You have given me the best six years… we've had a ball, and good luck.
The award-winning presenter managed to hold back the tears for most of the show, but in the final moments it was just too much as she gave her final speech. “Thank you to everyone, thank you so much.”
Finally Fern turned to Schofield and hugged him. “You have given me the best six years… we've had a ball, and good luck.”
Michael Ball completed the send-off with a special version of “Life is a Cabaret” to raputous applause.
