Mathew Horne of Gavin and Stacey fame will step into the shoes of Jon Moss, the drummer in 80s band Culture Club who famously had a relationship with Boy George.
Joining him is Hustle actor Marc Warren as the legendary nightclub owner Steve Strange, with The League of Gentlemen star Mark Gatiss taking on the role of music impresario Malcolm McLaren.
But all eyes will be on newcomer Douglas Booth, who has landed the lead role of the pop star himself Boy George, real name George O'Dowd.
The 90 minute drama, Worried About The Boy, will begin filming later this month by Red Production Company and will follow the star from cloak room attendant to iconic star. By the mid-80s however, Boy George was battling an addiction to heroin.
Controller of BBC drama commissioning, Ben Stephenson, spoke about the production: “Worried About The Boy will be an evocative and visually enticing drama about one of our most iconic British pop stars.”
Since splitting, Boy George has carved a successful solo and DJ career.
