Kiera Knightley’s stage debut with Damien Lewis

Film actress Kiera Knightley is to make her stage debut in December at London's Comedy Theatre.

KeiraKnightleyThe star is to play a spoilt Hollywood film actress opposite Damien Lewis in an updated version of Moliere's 17th Century comedy The Misanthrope. The production will be directed by Thea Sharrock and is set to run until March 2010.

Martin Crimp's version is set in modern-day London, where Alceste (Lewis) is a famous British playwright disillusioned and angry with the hypocrisy, shallowness and vanity of the contemporary world. Vowing to reject society, Alceste's plans are derailed when he falls madly in love with Jennifer (Knightley), an ambitious American film star and darling of the social scene, who may prove to be his biggest challenge yet.

Knightley (pictured) was an instant hit in the Brit flick Bend It Like Beckham and has since had major roles in Pirates of the Caribbean, Atonement, The Duchess, amongst many others.
