Zoe Wanamaker has spoken out over the row of equal opportunities for women working in the industry. In an interview with The Stage, the Award-winning actress claims that women continue to be paid less than men.
It is an issue that she herself has experienced, often having to “fight” for equality. “Women are always at the bottom as far as pay is concerned,” she said. “The equal pay business is a big struggle.”
Wanamaker who has had a illustrious career both on stage and screen, added: “Why should women get less? They have the same responsibilities, if not more, especially if they are married and have kids.”
In the very first issue of The Drama Student Magazine back in January, she told of her parents' concerns over her becoming an actress. “I don't think they were too happy about it only because of its obvious for obvious reasons. Particularly if you were a girl.”

Wanamaker has recently signed a Equity petition asking for broadcasters to consider female performers aged over 40 when casting roles. The lobby has been signed by over 4,000 people including Imelda Staunton.
