The days when you finished training, landed a job in rep and never set foot in a class again are long over. The UK theatre scene has been moving steadily towards a culture of ongoing training, like our American cousins, where, even those actors at the very top of their profession continue to ‘take class’ throughout their career.
In a highly competitive jobs market it is therefore vital to ensure your skills are in peak condition. Continued Professional Development (CPD) is the backbone of any actors career. It keeps you in condition, keeps you motivated, and keeps that fire in your belly – even when you’ve been ‘resting’ for a while.
Associated Studios, based at the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith, offers professional development courses for actors, musical theatre and opera singers. Set up by Leontine Hass in 2007, Associated Studios has since established itself as one of the top players in the CPD field. It’s a place to hone your skills, learn new skills, network with other professionals and perfect your craft.
The next Musical Theatre Course starts on Sunday 24 September for 12 weeks and there are still two available places. The course is just one day a week from 10.00am to 6.00pm so it is ideal for people who work during the week.
Associated Studios are holding auditions for all courses on Monday 10 September from 6,00pm, so if you are interested please contact Associated Studios on 020 8237 1080 or email info@associatedstudios.co.uk
The course focusses on developing and refining the performers existing vocal, acting and movement/dance skills, whilst developing their stamina and creating opportunities to work and create with practicing Directors, Musical Directors, Casting Directors, Agents, Writers and Performers. It will also focus on building a suitable audition repertoire folder. The course culminates in a cabaret with an invited audience. Some performers may choose to continue on to the 4 month 2 day/week course in the Spring 2013.
This course is ideal for recent graduates, a performer wishing to re-focus their career, or a seasoned performer looking for a safe space to create. The courses are about individual journeys and the opportunity to expand and develop skills. Applicants must be over 18 to apply, and Associated Studios welcome international applicants. The principle requirement is that you have the talent, drive and commitment expected for this advanced level of training.
